No ferry is going on in Padma
Authorities in Kathalbari-Shimulia of Madaripur and Paturia-Daulatdia river in Manikganj have stopped ferry operations due to dense fog.
Ferry services were stopped on Sunday (21 January) from 2:00 pm.
Assistant manager of Kanthalbari Ghat Ruhul Amin said that due to dense fog, the marking point and the bikan lights became unclear. In order to avoid the river accidents, the movement of all vessels in Kanthalbari-Shimulia Route was stopped at 2:00 pm. At least six ferries are anchored in mid-Padma.
Besides, a long stagnation of passenger and goods transport has been created in Kanthalbari Ghat area.
Nur Mohammad Chowdhury, Assistant General Manager of Paturia Ferryghat Branch, said that due to dense fog, the lighting of the firing on the ferry has become obscure. Ferry movement was temporarily suspended from 2am to avoid accidents in the river. At the time, five ferries trapped in Paturia Ghat, five in Daulatdia Ghat and five trapped in the middle Padma with vehicles and passengers.
But if the fog was cut, the ferry services would be normal for all the routes of Padma, said Ruhul Amin and Nasir Mohammad Chowdhury.
